Support for Senior Citizens

Jack McHale understands the challenges facing Chesterfield’s senior citizens. Jack fought for and won expanded Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly and Handicapped.

With Jack’s help the Board is already putting into action many of the recommendations contained in the Committee on the Future’s latest report – The Aging of the Population – Choices, Options and Benefits of Aging (2003).

The county has already hired a Senior Advocate to be an activist for seniors and help implement the actions recommended in the report.

Parks and Recreation

Jack McHale understands the important role of parks and playing fields in this community. Sports teach children teamwork, promote better health and bring together neighbors. He has worked successfully to invest over $2.6 million to improve recreation and conservation opportunities for Bermuda District.

Park Improvements include:

  • Playing field upgrades at Goyne/Ecoff Park
  • Renovations at Point of Rocks Park
  • Bensley Park Community Building Expansion
  • Playground Upgrades

Acquisition of over 1,000 acres of land for parks and conservation uses:

  • Dutch Gap Conservation Area
  • The Brown and Williamson Site
  • Lowe’s Soccer Complex

Libraries

Under Jack McHale’s leadership Chesterfield has invested more than $5.5 million in Bermuda District libraries and added the Center for the Arts at Chester to the County’s Capital Improvement Program.

Library Improvements include:

  • New Enon Library in 1992
  • New Chester Library in 2001
  • Enon Library Expansion Feasibility Study in 2003
  • Added the Arts Center at Chester to the Capital Improvement Plan

Community Development Block Grant Funds:

Jack McHale has worked hard to make sure community groups in Bermuda District have received their fair share of local, state and federal support. He has secured more than $3.7 million to invest in our neighborhoods – more than twice all the other districts combined.

Improvements from these grants include:

  • Rayon Park Improvements
  • Bensley Bermuda Volunteer Rescue Squad – Ambulance
  • Bensley Fire Department Pumper
  • Bensley Fire Department Ladder Truck

  • Winchester Green Child Development Center
  • Youth Programs
