Jack McHale's Commitment to Education

Throughout his three terms in office, Jack McHale has been committed to providing a quality education to children in the Bermuda District.

School Operating Budget

Jack McHale significantly increased investment in our schools. During his twelve years in office, growth in school spending has outstripped the growth in school population. Since 1992, school population has grown about 20 percent while school spending has increased by nearly 100 percent. This increased school funding has supported the superintendent's top three priorities:

• Prepare each student for success
• Provide a safe and effective learning environment
• Become a "first choice" employer.

The benefits to our schools have included -

• Maintaining the pupil teacher ratio.
• Providing additional resources for gifted programs.
• Allowing additional funding for special needs students.
• Delivering pay increases for teachers.
• Supporting additional school health nurses.
• Supporting the school police officer programs.

School Construction & Renovation

Jack McHale led the way to relieve crowding and make major renovations to the schools serving Bermuda District.

High Schools

Jack McHale made possible the following major renovations, underway or completed:

• Thomas Dale
• L.C. Bird
• Meadowbrook

Middle Schools

Jack McHale not only supported the construction of the new Carver Middle, but saw it opened a year ahead of schedule. He has also supported the major renovations currently underway at Chester Middle

Elementary Schools

Jack McHale not only voted for the new Marguerite Christian elementary but also saw it built a year ahead of schedule

For our existing schools, Jack obtained funding for these major renovations:

• Bellwood
• Ecoff
• Enon
• Harrowgate
• Wells

For the future, Jack McHale has obtained funding for a new elementary school, which will provide relief to Enon and Harrowgate.
